Quick Overview

We are really pleased to now be carrying Geoffrey Ellis's beautiful instruments! Their beauty and gorgeous tone make them a stand-out in our little world of Irish traditional music. His process of stabilizing wood through a special resin impregnation process means that he can use tone wood that normally can't be used in instruments, so each instrument is highly individual and will incite much envy in the wood-loving breast. :) The workmanship is superb, with tuning balance spot-on through two octaves and rich tonal qualities.

Though these are Pratten style flutes, Blayne says they are very manageable and easy to hold and play. For more detail, please listen to the audio file above.

This particular D flute is made of curly black walnut, which can be rather difficult to find among black walnut stock--it features beautiful figuring and beautiful coloration. Geoffrey's special resin impregnation process makes this wood suitable for flute making.

In the link below, flute player and teacher Leslie Ann Harrison plays the air "Casadh An tSúgáin" on an Ellis Pratten curly cherry flute. Leslie says she especially loves how an Ellis flute allows her to hang onto notes in her airs and is now just as "into" these flutes as we are!
