The Ellis Ebonite Pratten is based upon the historic Pratten's Perfected - a design which is favored by many for the requirements of Irish traditional music due to its power and expressiveness. Ebonite is a natural non-synthetic hard rubber that is valued for both its stability and acoustic properties. If you are unfamiliar with ebonite, have a look at Geoffery's article on the subject here.
The keywork on this instrument was the result of a collaboration we have with Maurice Reviol. As you can see in the photos, his attention to detail is impeccable and the keys function smooth, quick and responsive. The Bb key even features a milled recess to the key touch to allow the player to merely slide your thumb over to actuate. Fantastic!
The headjoint on this flute is unlined and has a nice woodsy bark when you lean into it while still being smooth and sweet up high when desired.
