Rudall & Rose 5-Piece Irish Flute in Delrin by Garry Somers
The Rudall & Rose Irish Flute by Garry Somers has a warm and full tone that sounds lovely in every register. This Irish flute has medium-sized tone holes and is a touch quieter than the Pratten model, making it perfect for smaller sessions and those with medium to small fingertips.
Here's what Blayne Chastain, founder of Whistle and Drum, has to say about Garry Somers' flutes:
"These flutes are not just good for the money, but they are some of the best flutes I've ever played. They give even my own flutes a run for their money."
The Rudall & Rose flute is modeled after a flute of the same name dating from the mid 1830's, according to Garry Somers. This flute has medium-sized toneholes and a more narrow bore than the Pratten model, making it easier to play for those with medium or small hands. The narrow bore allows the Rudall to be a quiet contrast to the Pratten, but this flute has a strong projection due to its reedy tone. All in all, the Rudall & Rose is a perfect balance of power, responsiveness, and tone.
Like the Pratten, the Rudall & Rose is made from Delrin and has nickel-plated brass rings on each joint. The head joint possesses a delrin endcap over a white delrin stopper.
