Army & Navy Co Society Cocus 6-Key, Eb

$1,29999
Condition: Used - Good

This flute bears the mark of the Army & Navy Co-operative Society Ltd., the London-based supplier to British military officers established in 1871. The construction suggests French manufacture to British military specifications—a common practice when French makers supplied instruments throughout the British Empire. The 6-key simple system features post-mounted keys in a Pratten-esque style, characteristic of robust British military instruments. The wood appears to be cocus. Completely restored with new pads and pinned cracks. Missing a ring on the headjoint right of the embouchure.

Pitch: An E♭ flute at A=452.5 (Old Philharmonic Pitch), adopted by the British Army in 1890. With headjoint fully inserted, plays at E at A=440; extended 5/8 inch with embouchure adjustment, plays at E♭ at A=440.

Strong, spirited voice with remarkable resonance and power. The robust tone and energetic response make this an engaging instrument for both historical performance and spirited playing at modern pitch.
