A nice strong player with good tuning across the registers. Responsive and clear.
The flute is in really nice shape with no cracks. Six brass keys with what appears to be a clear coat over the brass. The keys have been cleaned up but retain some natural patina from age, which gives the instrument a handsome, classic look. You don't see these come up on the used market very often.
About the Maker
Dave Williams was an English instrument maker who is perhaps best known for his work building uilleann pipes, though he also produced wooden flutes for players in the Irish tradition. He was active from the 1990s into the 2000s. His instruments were built in relatively small numbers, and they appear on the secondhand market infrequently. Among notable players, Niall Keegan, the Limerick-based flute player, teacher, and researcher associated with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick, is known to play a Dave Williams flute as his primary instrument.
