Lowden Sinker Redwood & Koa F50

This used Lowden F50, serial number 19453, completed on May 19, 2015, pairs a Master Grade sinker redwood soundboard with Master Grade koa back and sides. It is in excellent condition, with one minor cosmetic blemish (tiny drop of glue) on the top below the bridge, documented in our photos.

The 50 Series

The F

The F is Lowden's mid-sized body shape, known for focused midrange projection, articulate voice, and excellent sustain. Versatile across playing styles, from fingerpicking to flat-picking, it is one of the most universally capable shapes in the Lowden catalog.

Tonewoods

This instrument features a Master Grade sinker redwood soundboard paired with Master Grade koa back and sides. Sinker redwood is harvested from old-growth coastal redwood logs that fell naturally and were submerged in riverbeds for centuries, resulting in exceptional stiffness-to-weight characteristics and a voice that combines the warmth and fast response of cedar with more dynamic range and headroom than either cedar or spruce alone. The tone is rich and velvety, with long sustain and harmonic complexity that deepens with play over time. Koa, native to the Hawaiian Islands, occupies a tonal space between mahogany's warm midrange and maple's articulate top end, contributing strong note separation, clarity, and a natural brightness that opens up and sweetens with age. Together, these woods produce a voice that is warm and deeply resonant, with excellent definition and a sparkling top end.

Electronics

Fitted with an LR Baggs HiFi Duet pickup system, combining a pair of bridge plate sensors with the Silo internal microphone and a soundhole-mounted preamp with independent volume and mic blend controls. Note: the pickup has been glued in place and is likely not easily removable.

Fingerstyle, strumming, flat-picking, and all-around playing.
