This mid-19th century 9-key flute is stamped "J. Leukhardt" and was crafted in Boston. It remains in good structural condition with only a stable hairline crack on the lower tenon. The instrument seals well and plays fairly easily. While it appears to have been built for sharp pitch, it can be played near A=440 with the tuning slide extended approximately 3/4". The keywork includes a low B key, making it a fully chromatic example of the period. This flute offers both historical interest and playability for those accustomed to antique instruments.

John (J.) Leukhardt was active in Boston during the mid‑19th century, notably in partnership with F. Schauffler between approximately 1851 and 1857. Together, they produced high‑quality 9‑key simple‑system wooden flutes crafted in a Viennese style, making their instruments notable among American flute makers of the era.
