First launched in 2009, Blayne’s Irish Flute & Tin Whistle Course has helped more than 2,900 students around the world learn traditional Irish music online.

Built for players of Irish flute and tin whistle, the course brings together more than 150 tune lessons, dedicated technique libraries, beginner foundations courses, accompaniment tracks, downloadable notation and tablature, and lesson discussions where students can ask questions and share insights with Blayne and fellow players.

At the heart of the course are the tune lessons themselves. Reels, jigs, hornpipes, slip jigs, polkas, slides, airs, and marches are taught phrase by phrase, with close attention to rhythm, phrasing, ornamentation, breath control, tone, and the musical details that give Irish traditional music its character. Many lessons include both a fully ornamented version and a simpler “bare bones” approach, helping students learn the tune itself before gradually adding more detail as their playing develops.

About Blayne

Blayne Chastain has taught Irish flute and tin whistle online since 2009. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he later earned a master’s degree in Irish Flute Performance from the University of Limerick in Ireland. His teaching draws on decades of performing, recording, teaching, and participating in traditional music sessions.
