About Hawkes & Son
Hawkes & Son, founded in London in 1865, was a major manufacturer of wind instruments and one of the most prominent names in British band and orchestral supply by the late 19th century. While best known for brass and military band instruments, their woodwind division produced high-quality simple system flutes—often built for military or marching use. These instruments are appreciated today for their solid construction, strong intonation, and expressive tone, making them desirable among traditional Irish players and collectors alike.
