Everything a large-hole Rudall and Rose should be. It has that lovely compression in the sound you hear in the best Rudalls, and the power to keep up in any rowdy Irish session. Tuning and intonation are impeccable.
The response is fantastic, with a nice strong bottom D, and the low C and C# foot keys work excellently.
The body is blackwood with silver keys and rings, and the keyways are silver lined. The flute has no cracks, and shows only light surface scuffs.
About the Maker
John Gallagher makes flutes in West Virginia. He worked with the late Rod Cameron for a number of years, the California maker best known for his baroque flutes, and his own range runs from baroque models after Stanesby, Grenser, Denner and Bizey to Pratten models in D and F, and Rudall and Rose models in small-hole and large-hole versions. His small-hole Rudall is copied from the Rudall and Rose that Chris Norman plays.
