The tone is akin to a Goldie or an Overton, with the same nice compressed quality, and it is beautifully expressive, with a very nuanced response to the breath. The mouthpiece follows a similar design to those whistles, and like them it wants to be warmed up. Played cold, the windway condenses a little and can clog briefly; once it reaches playing temperature it clears up nicely.
Beautifully made, with extra flourishes throughout: a subtle flare at the bell end, fine detailing around the body, and a small raised maker's emblem at the head. Non-tunable. A high C plays along with a great many songs. Comes in a telescopic clear plastic tube.
Harper whistles are the work of Steve Harper, a UK gunsmith as well as a whistle maker, and they very rarely come up for sale.
