A beautifully made instrument with impeccable intonation and response, showing some of the finest workmanship you will find. The unlined head joint gives it a chocolaty, woodsy tone with real bite, and the tuning slide is wrapped in matching African blackwood.
The flute is set up with six keys, but the blocks for the low C and C# keys are already in place, so those keys can be added later by John if you ever want them. Hole sizes run medium to medium-large: the left-hand holes are quite comfortable, closer to a small-hole Rudall, while the right-hand holes sit more in medium to medium-large territory. The result is a flute that is very comfortable to hold and strikes a fine balance of power and agility, with a wickedly strong bottom D.
