1923 Gibson A-style Snakehead mandolin from the Lloyd Loar era. Serial Number 72831. Excellent condition for its age, with comfortable low action and a clear, bright tone marked by excellent sustain—an outstanding player. Comes with hardshell case (not original).

Snakehead mandolins from this era are especially sought after for their refined design and tonal qualities, attributed in part to the influence of acoustic engineer Lloyd Loar. Loar joined Gibson in the early 1920s and helped introduce innovations that dramatically improved instrument performance, including a redesigned headstock—the distinctive “snakehead”—and other structural refinements. Instruments from Loar’s tenure are prized for their responsiveness, projection, and craftsmanship.
