A wooden Boehm system flute stamped G.L. PENZEL / NEW YORK on the body, with a rounded rectangle embouchure and plateau keywork, in three sections. Sounding length is 602mm.

Gustav L. Penzel set up in New York in 1882, and the firm went through several names as it grew: G.L. Penzel and Brother from 1884, then G.L. Penzel and Muller from 1899 once Edward Muller joined, and eventually Penzel Mueller and Co, which continued as a New York woodwind manufacturer until 1970. This flute carries the plain G.L. Penzel mark with neither of the later additions attached, which points to an early example from the firm's first years in the city.

Offered as is. The head joint is in good shape and the flute is complete, but the key action is lazy and it wants a full disassembly, clean, repad and regulation, along with a repair to a broken roller key on the foot and fresh tenon corks.
