A wonderful player in excellent condition, purchased directly from the maker. The tone is solid and full, with strong volume that carries well in a session setting. The second octave responds readily without requiring significant additional air pressure, giving the instrument a balanced, even feel across both registers. The upper reaches of the second octave speak cleanly without undue effort, which is where many high D whistles begin to push back.
Construction follows the GT Session design: a brass head with a Delrin plug and mouthpiece, paired with a wooden body for warmth and body in the tone. Condition is excellent, with no signs of significant wear.
About the Maker
Based in Belfast, Roy McManus (MacMaghnuis) is world-renowned for his hand-crafted wooden Irish whistles. He works in both hardwood and ebonite; when making wooden whistles, he has favored materials such as African Blackwood, Indian Ebony, and Mopane. The GT Session represents his take on the large-bore high D concept: by McManus's own description, it is not a bedroom whistle but a louder instrument, not for the faint hearted.
