A rare opportunity. Purchased new in February 2023 and maintained with care since, this six-key Nicholson-style Olwell plays as well as you would expect from the shop: responsive across the full range, impeccable intonation, and a notably strong, full-bodied bottom D. The head is fully silver-lined.
The key configuration is where this instrument stands apart from a standard six-key layout. At the previous owner's request, the Olwells fitted it with lowered key blocks and right-hand touches for both Bb and C. The execution is beautifully done. This configuration suits players who use piper's grip or those who simply prefer a right-hand Bb touch. We are seeing this configuration increasingly sought after, and finding one on an Olwell is genuinely uncommon.
The flute has been kept humidified at 45 to 50 percent and regularly oiled with almond oil. Condition is like new. Supplied with custom fitted Northwind Case.
The Olwells have recently closed their order books for keyed flutes for the time being; the waitlist before orders were suspended had stretched to approximately ten years.
