Due to the ivory, this flute is available to US customers only.

This is a handsome boxwood and ivory 4-key flute from W.H. Hayden of London, a music seller and publisher active during the 19th century. The instrument exemplifies the craftsmanship characteristic of London flute makers from this period, with expertly executed construction throughout.

The flute features small tone holes and responds beautifully in the hands. The boxwood body is notably light, contributing to a responsive and lively playing feel. The ivory ferrules and fittings add visual appeal and are typical of quality flutes from this era. The instrument has a pinned crack on the underside of the headjoint and a sealed hairline crack in the barrel which has been reinforced with a carbon fiber band under the ivory ring.

This is a fine example of mid-19th century London flute making, suitable for players interested in exploring the repertoire and sound characteristics of antique instruments from this tradition.

Plays nicely at A440 with the headjoint pushed in all the way. Sounding length: 533mm
