Initially, they manufactured brass and percussion instruments, notably producing Canada's first cornet in 1888. Their product lines included the 'Imperial' and 'Ideal' brands. Beyond manufacturing, the company was a significant music publisher, releasing works by various Canadian composers. After Whaley's death in 1920, the firm changed ownership and continued operations until ceasing instrument production in 1975.
