Condition: Restored Antique.  Sealed hairline crack in barrel. Overhauled by Chris Norman in late 2021

who also made an additional head for it in stained Mopane with a sterling silver liner (fully lined). The previous owner feels that the new headjoint is easier to play. Both perform very well.  The overhaul included:

  • Clean & refinish all keys, bore and exterior.
  • Clean, adjust, repad, and restore all keys.
  • Replace cork on tenons (by owner's request), except the lower joint on the upper body which was rethreaded.
  • Restore cork on flute body for key stops.
  • Fill and blend low C block (stabilized a previous repair).
  • Reamed 0.5 mm from the footjoint to improve the resonance of the low notes (E to low C).

Current owner added a bit of shellac to the A and B holes for fine tuning.

Nice player with really great tuning.  The shellac added to holes 1/2 could be removed to open it up a bit - would give a hair more power in those notes but the player would just have to lip them down a bit which is common with many flutes (Rudalls especially).  Great option for the player with smaller hands who has a nice tight and refined embouchure.  Has a nice tight "on-rails" sound.  Not a session "canon" but has good energy and resonance and a nice strong bottom d thanks to the modifications made by Chris.  Comes with the original headjoint as well as the new one made by Chris.
