A fantastically agile and quick-responding instrument in as-new condition, purchased directly from Dave Copley in December 2022.

The body is pink ivory, a precious Southern African hardwood valued for its strength and distinctive colouring. It offers high density suitable for woodwind construction, does not split easily due to its high oil content. The hardwood is also noted for its clear, ringing tap tone and warm, captivating tonal qualities. The headjoint is fully lined with sterling silver and fitted with a screw-adjustable tuning cork. Keys are four in number: G#, Bb, short F, and Eb, in standard configuration, all in silver. The instrument is in as-new condition and has been stored in a humidified case since new.

About the Maker

Dave Copley and Marlene Boegli operate their flute workshop in Loveland, Ohio. Their instruments are tapered-bore simple system flutes based on originals made in England during the 1800s, with the greatest influence being the flutes of Hawkes and Son of London, with the design adapted to suit the characteristics sought by players of Irish traditional music. Their philosophy is to combine painstaking traditional craftsmanship with a solid grounding in engineering and scientific fundamentals. The result is an instrument with a devoted following and a wait list that, at the time of this listing, extends well beyond two years. This flute represents a genuine opportunity to acquire one without that wait.
