A fantastic performer, with a big, strong tone and excellent intonation. Barely played, and in excellent condition throughout with no darkening at the embouchure.
Fitted with a tuning slide, with nickel silver ferrules at the joint and foot, a metal-lined socket in the head, and a turned wooden crown. The wood is vacuum resin infused, a process Geoffrey Ellis began using in 2015 in which dried billets are submerged in liquid resin under vacuum so the wood draws resin deep into its pores. Infused wood runs 30 to 60 percent denser than untreated stock, and in some cases twice as dense. The practical upshot is stability: strong resistance to moisture, very little movement with changes in temperature and humidity, and a flute that asks very little in the way of maintenance. Believed to date from around 2017.

About the Maker
Geoffrey Ellis has been a full-time professional woodwinds maker since 1997, working out of the coastal woods of Northern California. He builds an unusually broad range of folk flutes, Irish flutes alongside Chinese xiao, Indian bansuri, Japanese shakuhachi, and rim-blown flutes in the Pueblo tradition, as well as wooden head joints for Boehm silver flutes. Hard maple is his primary choice for resin infusion, absorbing the resin especially well.
