Geoffrey Ellis Quena, G

The quena (pronounced "kay-nah") is a traditional flute of the Andes. It is typically in the key of G, has six holes and a thumb hole, and plays the diatonic major scale. It is known for its distinct timbre and strong voice; the quenacho follows the same design in a lower key, typically D. This example is in excellent used condition and includes a soft cloth bag.

About the Maker

Geoffrey Ellis has been a respected maker of world flutes since 1997, working from his home in the redwood forest of Northern California. His ongoing collaborations with top flautists and gifted fellow makers have resulted in a portfolio of world flutes played by amateur and professional musicians around the globe. His quenas address one of the instrument's longstanding challenges: by introducing a taper into the bore, both the intonation and response of the flute are dramatically improved and easier access to the second octave is achieved, giving them the classic quena sound with the added advantage of balanced tuning and smoother response.
