This beautifully restored flute received expert care from Patrick Olwell. All components are original except for one replacement mammoth ivory ring and the barrel section, which has been replaced with acid-stained cocus to match the aged appearance of the original cocus wood. The barrel is stamped "Olwell," a mark Patrick adds to restorations where he has significantly enhanced the flute's performance through adjustments to the bore, tuning, embouchure, and other details.
The flute plays excellently at A=440Hz and is well-suited for players with smaller hands seeking a fully keyed instrument. While not the loudest flute, it delivers enough power for Irish traditional music and performs beautifully in smaller, more intimate music sessions. Its character is comparable to a medium-small holed Rudall-style flute.
