A mellow tone at moderate volume, with nice tuning throughout. This is the Sweetbrass model, which pairs a brass body with a polymer head and black Delrin components. The head is tunable across a useful range, roughly A=432 pulled out to A=444 pushed in, with standard pitch in the middle.
Chris Wall works from Chapin, South Carolina, and came to Irish whistles by way of the Japanese shakuhachi. He is self-taught, and has also made Chinese xiao, duduk, Native American flute and Irish flute. His own site puts the count at over 1200 whistles shipped to more than 40 countries.
These have become difficult to obtain. Orders placed in 2020 and 2021 were still reported unfulfilled years later, and the maker's published backlog runs to several years, so the secondhand market is realistically the only route to one.
