A really nice player, and a remarkably efficient one. It asks very little air, with a sweet tone and an easy response that makes it comfortable over a long session. The hand spread is manageable enough that it can be played without piper's grip, though piper's grip makes it easier still.
The body is aluminum and the fipple plug is a translucent blue material that light passes through, which is an unusual and rather good-looking touch. Dated 2010.
Low F sits a comfortable distance below a high D and suits players who want the low whistle voice without the reach of a low D.
About the Maker
Domnahl na Gruen Whistlecraft was the work of Daniel McGinley, who built in Knoydart in the Scottish Highlands. He made aluminum whistles in high and low pitches, sold largely direct, and built a quiet reputation among low whistle players. The workshop is no longer active and these turn up only occasionally.
