This flute is in remarkably good condition, with only a couple of hairline cracks in the right-hand section by the socket that have been sealed. It has been thoroughly inspected by antique flute restorer Jerry Schurr, who re-padded the keys, installed a new internal head cork, and cleaned and oiled the instrument. No further work or restoration is needed at this time. It comes with its original case, which, while not in great condition, holds historical value. Foam cushioning has been added for functionality, and it is secured with elastic bands, though a more thorough case restoration may be desired.
When assembled, the flute plays perfectly at A440 with excellent intonation. It has a relatively strong bottom D and, despite its smaller hole size, can be pushed harder than expected. While not a loud session instrument, it is well-suited for smaller group settings or solo playing/recording. Light in the hands, it offers an effortless playing experience. Though valuable as a collector’s piece, it remains a remarkable instrument- responsive, satisfying, and sure to bring enjoyment for years to come.
