Tight and focused, with the compressed Overton voice, good back pressure, and excellent tuning. Colin Goldie's whistles are quite consistent, and this one is true to type. A low A gives you the low whistle voice with less of a stretch than a low D, and it sits naturally in A and D.
Made by Colin Goldie in the early 2000s, during the period when he was building to the Overton design and the instruments still went out under the Overton name. One-piece and non-tunable. In near-new condition, with a padded pouch.
About the Maker
Bernard Overton (1930 to 2008), an English flute maker and jazz musician, is credited with producing the first modern low whistle in 1971, working with Finbar Furey. Colin Goldie learned the craft from him and earned the right to use the Overton name. After Overton's death in 2008, Goldie went on making whistles under his own name, and they are played by Brian Finnegan, Michael McGoldrick and John McSherry.
