Made in London around 1895, this 5-key Eb flute by Hawkes & Son is crafted from cocuswood. It has been restored with sealed hairline cracks typical of flutes from this period and now plays well. This is a high band-pitch Eb flute that, once warmed up, can play effectively in E at A440 with the tuning slide fully pushed in. Depending on slide position, it functions as either a sharp-pitch Eb or a “low pitch” E flute.
