A fantastic player. The tone is nice and clear, with a solid quality that owes something to the heavy brass, and it carries that classic "cosmic drain pipe" sound. Intonation and response are both very good. It is non-tunable, set to sit a little flat when cold and to play at A=440 once warmed up.
A low F gives you the voice of a low whistle without the full reach of a low D. The walls are thick brass, so this is not a light instrument. Comes with a padded woven drawstring pouch.
These brass Chieftains were known as the Gold whistles. They were made for only a short time, are no longer produced, and are very rarely seen. Chieftain whistles are the work of Phil Hardy, whose Kerry Whistles workshop has been building low whistles since 1992.
