This beautiful cocus wood F flute represents an impressive restoration and refinement by Patrick Olwell. Originally anonymous, the flute arrived in near mint condition with only a small hairline crack in the lower socket, which has been sealed. Pat's work went beyond simple restoration, including a complete overhaul and fine-tuning along with a careful opening of the bore to enhance playability and response.
The six nickel silver keys are all functioning beautifully, and the flute's versatility is one of its most appealing features. With the slide pulled out as shown, it plays well at A440 with excellent intonation across the range. However, this flute truly shines when pushed in and played sharp, revealing its original design intention for higher pitch and band use. This flexibility makes it an engaging instrument for players exploring different pitch standards and playing styles.
The cocus wood displays lovely grain and character throughout, and the overall condition reflects careful restoration work. All the mechanical elements are in excellent working order. This is a really impressive little flute that rewards sensitive playing and offers genuine musical possibilities whether you're working at modern pitch or exploring the brighter, sharper tones this design was originally built to deliver.
