About the Maker
Lloyd Heikes' lifelong passion for music led him to instrument crafting at the age of 15, starting with classical guitars before transitioning to violin making. Despite considering a career in violin making, he pursued dental school, where his violin craftsmanship played a significant role in his acceptance. Summers spent at the University of New Hampshire, under the tutelage of Karl Roy, honed his skills and deepened his appreciation for the craft.
Throughout his career as a luthier, Lloyd has crafted over 40 violins, two violas, and four cellos, all infused with his unwavering commitment to excellence. His fascination with violin varnish persists, with his own handmade blend of fused amber and walnut oil adorning his instruments. In addition to his classical creations, Lloyd has crafted over 100 Irish whistles from exotic woods over the past 15 years, showcasing his versatility and dedication across diverse musical traditions, with his instruments available for purchase on The Irish Flute Store website.
