The 25 is the entry point to Lowden's Original Series, and the model where the range's essentials arrive without additional ornament: George Lowden's own bracing, the five piece mahogany and rosewood neck, and a soundboard and back set chosen to work together. The appointments are deliberately restrained, which leaves the woods and the build to carry the guitar.

The O is the body shape George drew in 1974 and it remains the largest in the range. It gives deep bass, even mids, and trebles with real sparkle, along with the long, piano-like sustain the shape is known for. It comes into its own in open and altered tunings, where the extra air in the box lets the low strings bloom without swallowing the melody. The Venetian cutaway keeps the upper register within easy reach for lead lines and melodic playing.

Red Cedar speaks immediately and answers to a light touch, giving a rounded, vocal quality through the midrange that suits fingerstyle particularly well. East Indian Rosewood extends that voice at both ends, adding depth below and a bell-like clarity on top, along with the sustain and harmonic complexity rosewood is valued for. In an O body the pairing reads as warm and wide open, with plenty of headroom before it compresses.

Visually the guitar is quiet and cohesive. Mahogany binding sits close in tone to the rosewood, with maple, rocklite, and mahogany purflings drawing a fine line between them, and the ebony fingerboard and ebony tuner buttons carry the dark trim through to the headstock.

It ships in Lowden's current custom hardcase: a hardwood shell under a tear resistant covering, with an integrated suspension system shaped to the body and a dual support that cradles most of the neck against knocks. The close fit also slows the effect of outside humidity and temperature swings, letting the air inside the case change gradually rather than all at once.

Ideal for

Fingerstyle, open and altered tunings, solo performance, and strumming.

Tone profile

Deep and resonant, with a warm, responsive midrange, sparkling trebles, and long sustain.
