Michael Copeland of Copeland Woodwinds (Cherry Hill, New Jersey) makes Irish-style wooden flutes and pennywhistles modeled on 19th-century originals.
This blackwood and silver 4-key D flute is a really nice player. The four keys make the instrument fully chromatic, with comfortable ergonomics throughout. Response and tone are both excellent, and intonation is very good. The barrel has a previous hairline crack that has been repaired with an outer layer of thread and cyanoacrylate adhesive, which is a strong and reliable repair that keeps the joint sealing well. The pads have been recently replaced.
