The Morneaux Chromatic 10-hole high D whistle draws inspiration from various Renaissance and Baroque era wind instruments, as well as modern 10-hole fifes found in the United States. Designed to answer requests for a chromatic whistle without the visible keywork of models like the Sweetheart Flute Co. Killoury, this 10-hole design emerged after extensive testing and feedback from traditional whistle players.
With its ergonomic layout tailored for traditional players, this whistle offers expanded capabilities compared to standard 6-hole diatonic models. While it may require some adjustment for those accustomed only to traditional designs, the chromatic layout makes other scales, beyond D and G, more accessible, and facilitates playing accidentals. All this is achieved while preserving the traditional wooden whistle aesthetic.
