A beautiful round, woodsy tone, nice and clear, without much chiff to it. It moves cleanly between the first and second octaves, and the second octave is well balanced rather than shrill. Volume is moderate.
The Rover takes its name from its construction: it comes apart into three sections and packs down small enough to travel with. The body is a dark, close-grained hardwood with brass ferrules and a Delrin mouthpiece.

David O'Brien makes the Rover as a three-piece pocket whistle in a range of hardwoods, alongside brass telescopic whistles and flute and piccolo conversions.
