Olwell Restored Rudall, Carte & Co. Cocus & Silver 8-Key

$3,49999
Condition:

Condition: Restored by Patrick Olwell

SN: 6660

When Pat received this flute, the head joint and body was pristine with no cracks and no key or block damage.  The only crack to repair was in the barrel which he wrapped externally with thread.

Though this flute was certainly intended for higher pitch (as were most British flutes of this vintage), this one plays nicely at A440 with the head joint extended about 3/4".  Also plays nicely with an Olwell head joint though we find the original to play really well - crisp and powerful!  Some slight non-destructive tuning tweaks were made to better play at modern pitch (Pat noted that one note was tuned slightly down using a bit of epoxy).

Hole #4 is 9mm which is what Pat considers to be a standard Nicholson type design.

When you push the headjoint in, this flute turns wildly energetic - almost like an Eb flute.  Still, at modern pitch, there's power, clarity and very good intonation.
