Firth, Pond, & Co. 1-Key D Flute

$99999
Condition: Used - Excellent

The Firth, Pond, & Co. imprint, used between 1847–1863 (New Langwill Index), dates this historic flute to New York during the American Civil War or the turbulent decade preceding it. Grey Larsen, author of The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle, is a notable advocate for Firth flutes in today's traditional music scene.

Recently restored by Matthew Slauson, the flute underwent professional repairs, including sealing cracks in the headjoint and right hand section, reinforcing the head socket with a period-appropriate ring, adding a historically styled new end cap, and replacing the D#/Eb key. The surface has been polished.

The flute plays well at 440Hz, speaks clearly in the upper register, responds well throughout its range, and offers useable cross-fingerings. This is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully restored piece of musical history.
