This rare 6-key Eb flute by French maker Pol Jezequel is crafted from yew wood with silver keywork. In June 2025, the flute was fully serviced by Pol himself, who touched up the bore, repadded the keys, and reinforced a prior barrel crack repair with an internal brass sleeve for lasting stability.

The instrument plays with excellent tuning and quick response—bright, agile, and lively in tone. Yew offers a distinct aesthetic and sonic profile, and Pol’s craftsmanship is increasingly sought after, with a current waitlist exceeding two years.

Though yew wood is technically harder than boxwood—measuring approximately 1,520 lbf on the Janka hardness scale compared to boxwood’s 1,200–1,450 lbf—the response of this yew wood flute is strikingly similar. Both woods share a lively, tactile feel that makes them highly responsive under the fingers. Compared to denser species like African blackwood (~3,670 lbf), yew and boxwood flutes are lighter in the hands and often feel more “alive,” making them ideal for players who prioritize agility, nuance, and immediate feedback in tone production.
