Rudall, Carte & Co. No. 7103 ā Cocuswood, Nickel Silver Keys
A Rudall, Carte & Co. eight-keyed flute in cocuswood with nickel silver saltspoon keys, nickel silver rings, a saltspoon Eb key, and pewter C⯠and C keys with round strike plates. Stamped "Rudall Carte & Co, 23 Berners Street, Oxford Street, London," dating its manufacture to approximately 1891. The flute comes in a contemporary wooden inlaid case (missing the original key and grease pot).
sThis flute was in near-mint condition when it arrived for service and needed very little. Colin Hamilton re-threaded all joints, repadded the keys, and gave the instrument a thorough cleaning. There are no cracks, no repairs, and no replacement parts ā all sections, keyblocks, and components are original.
The headjoint/barrel combination seals fully. The flute speaks easily and cleanly down to low C and plays excellently ā responsive and lively. Sounding length is 565.5mm. When cold, it plays at A440 with a slide extension of roughly 25ā30mm depending on the player.
A well-preserved example from Rudall, Carte & Co.'s later production in outstanding original condition, freshly serviced and ready to play.
