Rudall & Rose No. 15 Piazza Covent Garden LONDON 2883
Lovely playing Rudall & Rose fully and recently restored by Jon Cornia. Comes with matching Olwell cocus headjoint. Plays at A440hz with original tuning slide extended 3/4" and Olwell tuning slide extended 3/8". Great lengths were made by Jon Cornia to restore the original headjoint and as such, it plays very nicely indeed. Added power and dynamic range is given to the flute when paired with the included modern Olwell headjoint which yields a stronger bottom range including the low C/C# notes.
We would consider this flute to have medium sized holes (perhaps just shy of medium). Hole 4 is 8.4mm which would put it just about .6mm shy of a Nicholson type flute. See Patrick Olwell's article A Taxonomy of Tone Holes.
Tuning is very good. Does require a slight bit of lipping up and pushing on the bottom D and lipping down on the A/B notes as which is typical on R&R flutes. The newer Olwell headjoint helps very much in this regard as the extra energy afforded the flute helps to raise the bottom D and give added malleability of both tone and intonation.
Supplied with both a period style case (needing restoration) and a Pelican 1400 ballistic style case.
