The old mass-produced whistles that a lot of players cut their teeth on, Generation, Feadóg, Oak, Acorn, and the like, pair a thin-walled brass body with an injection-molded mouthpiece, and they're still made and played today. The Trad is Tony Dixon's own take on that same format: a thin-walled, nickel-plated body built the classic way, but with a polymer head made in-house rather than injection molded, for a clearer, more true voice than the format usually gives.
It has a sweet, clean tone with a bit of edge and chiff, and gives an in-tune C natural on the cross-fingered 0xx 000 fingering, which not every whistle at this level manages. The head joint is tuneable.
