The tone is clear and glass-like, with excellent intonation across both octaves. The second octave is particularly fine, with a bright, singing quality that remains restrained rather than shrill. For a high E whistle, it navigates the upper register with notable ease and sweetness. Volume sits at a comfortable level for the key: present and articulate without being overbearing.
The body is tulipwood with stainless fittings. Condition is essentially new; this whistle was never sold and remained in the maker's personal back stock. It comes in a custom-fitted wooden box, which is itself characteristic of Schultz's instruments.
About the Maker
Glenn A. Schultz Sr. worked out of Oxford, Michigan, handcrafting whistles from exotic woods and man-made materials under the Thin Weasel Woodwinds name. The Thin Weasel was his wooden design, distinct from his PVC-bodied Water Weasel line. Schultz mentored Paul Busman, who went on to become a respected maker in his own right.
