J.W. Moffat Cocus & Nickle Silver, D

$19999
Condition: Parts/Not-Working

This J.W. Moffat cocus and nickel-silver flute presents a substantial restoration project for the dedicated repairer. The instrument shows its age with multiple hairline cracks throughout the body, including the left-hand and right-hand sections, as well as the barrel. The headjoint is notably the most intact component and does seal properly, bearing the maker's mark.

The keywork requires significant attention. The flute is missing the low C and C-sharp keys entirely, with the keyways broken off. The long C key is also absent, along with its associated block. The short F key shows damage with a chip, and the hole has been plugged. The right-hand section includes a hairline crack that has been glued, as have the cracks in the barrel section.

Despite its condition, the flute retains the maker's mark on the headjoint and left-hand section and possibley the foot, though marking clarity varies. This is plainly a project instrument best suited to someone with metalworking expertise and the ability to refashion the missing keywork.
