Excellent Condition / Restored
Age: ~1860
VERY interesting flute for not only the flute collector but also coin! See in the detailed photos that the maker Hugh Cottier used "Seated Liberty" dimes for the 3rd and 6th finger hole keys!
This instrument underwent extensive restoration (24 hours!) by the von Huene Workshop in Massachusetts.
From Musical Instrument Makers of New York by Nancy Groce:
"Cottier was a flute maker who began his career in New York c. 1840...
in 1850 and 1851 his diatonic flutes (Siccama) won silver medals at American Institute Fairs; and at the 1855 Fair, the judges noted that a Cottier flute, entered by his New York agents William Hall & Sons, was "superior to any flutes we have ever examined," and awarded him a gold medal."
